Trusteeship Program

For 16 and 17 year-old youth who can no longer reside with a parent or guardian and who apply to receive Ontario Works benefits, a Trustee is required. Throughout Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka, Elizabeth Fry Society can act as a Trustee and will be the liaison between Ontario Works case coordinators and youth benefit recipients, supporting youth in meeting their Ontario Works obligations. The program also helps youth navigate other issues they may be facing, such as problems at school/work or financial troubles. Staff working in the Trusteeship Program act as an advocate for youth, working with schools, landlords and Ontario Works to ensure young people’s needs are met and their rights are respected.
